Female American Oystercatcher Ready to Copulate

A group of us were photographing a pair of cooperative oystercatchers on the beaches of Fort DeSoto in Florida when what i realized was the female positioned herself as you see above.

I just about stained my underware when i realized what was about to happen and that i had a teleconverter on my lens and no time to move back to allow enough room to compose a good mating image.

Right after i shot this image i tore off the teleconverter with reckless abandon hoping like hell to get a good mating image!

Silver Efex Powder Turn

Since last summer my workflow has changed entirely from using solely Nikon software to Lightroom and Photoshop. The Nikon software is slow as molasses which isn't good for culling and processing a couple thousand images every week. It was also very prone to crashes, seemingly at the worst of times.

However, as much as i try with the Adobe products i find it difficult to reproduce what i get with Capture NX2 and Nik Color Efex 3.0 filters.

A few days ago i bought the Nik Software bundle as i'll be into wedding season in a few weeks time. This bundle gives me back Color Efex Pro 3 and a host of other programs.

I've come to find the joy of Silver Efex Pro 2. I've hear people raving for a year or two now. The hype is legit!

Image taken one a huge powder day with lots of sun last winter on a D700 and 70-200 VR shot wide open.

I messed this one up clipping the pelicans left wing tips. There were also two other pelicans in the frame that didn't help.

With a little photoshop trickery i was able to repair the clipped wings and remove the two offending pelicans.

Thanks for viewing!

What do you do when there's little light and skimmers doing what skimmers do right in front of you?

You crank it up the ISOs, pan and hope like hell!

Atlantic Puffin with Grasses

It's all about anticipation...wanting what you don't have at the moment.

A few months ago i couldn't wait to get to Florida to see and photograph different subjects than what we have here in Newfoundland.

Now that i'm home and processed a gabillion FL photos i can't wait to hit the cliffs of NL to shoot our seabirds such as this Atlantic Puffin!

Thanks for looking!

Marbled Godwit Portrait, Fort DeSoto

It was super tough to photograph the few marbled godwits along as they were nestled in tight with a group of shorebirds.

Luckily i was able to make a few portraits as one of the birds walked away from the group.

Patience

From a week or two ago in 'Ding' Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island in Florida.

This Yellow Crowned Night Heron patiently hunted fish while the last rays of the sun graced the water, all the while we got eaten by 'no see ems'.

Still got scars on my arms from those SOBs!
